La Plata County Jail Commander Charged with 117 Counts of Invasion of Privacy

July 23, 2025 – CBI –  Durango, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has charged a former La Plata County Jail Commander, Edward Aber, 62, with 117 counts of Invasion of Privacy for Sexual Gratification, a Class 1 Misdemeanor, and one count of First Degree Official Misconduct, also a Class 1 Misdemeanor. These charges stem from an investigation initiated on January 2, 2025, when the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was contacted to assist the La Plata County Sheriff's Office.

Murder Arrest in Blue River Homicide

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has obtained an arrest warrant for 46-year old Daniel Joseph DeVito charging him with the 1st Degree Murder of 32-year old Jordan Elizabeth Labarre of Breckenridge.

CBI and Colorado Department of Public Safety Announce Independent Assessment of Forensic Services Division

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) today released the findings of an independent assessment of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s Forensic Services (CBIFS) section. The assessment was conducted by the firm Forward Resolutions. It specifically assessed CBIFS operations and leadership from 2022-2024 with some historical review extending back to 2010.

Detectives Identify Man Found Dead in Field Nearly 25 Years Ago

After nearly 25 years and countless hours of investigative work, Pueblo County Sheriff’s detectives have identified the remains of a man whose body was found in 2000 in a field just north of the Pueblo City limits.

Human Remains Found in Remote Area Confirmed to Be Edna Quintana

June 27, 2025- CBI - Saguache, CO- On June 17, 2025, a hiker in a remote area of Saguache County discovered what appeared to be human remains and immediately contacted the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies promptly responded to the location and secured the scene pending further investigation.

INDICTMENT OF BARRY MORPHEW

On June 18, 2025, the Twelfth Judicial District Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Barry Morphew with the First Degree Murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew.  Mr. Morphew was taken into custody in Arizona on June 20, 2025. The Twelfth Judicial District Attorney’s Office will seek to extradite Mr. Morphew back to the San Luis Valley.
