Federal Heights Police Safely Recover Endangered Missing Child; Father in Custody

October 23, 2025 – CBI – Federal Heights, CO – The Federal Heights Police Department is pleased to announce the safe recovery of a 2-year-old boy, forcibly taken by his father, Louis Salvador, early yesterday evening. Federal Heights Police requested assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in issuing an alert to assist in recovering the child.

Former San Miguel Deputy on the run Caught in Mexico, Transferred to Arizona

October 3, 2025 – CBI – Telluride, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) can confirm Mr. Jesus Damian Nieblas, a former deputy with the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, has been taken into custody. Nieblas was apprehended by Mexican authorities in the border town of Agua Prieta, Mexico and was transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals at the border checkpoint near Douglas, Arizona.

CBI Conducting Case Review into Death of Hunter S. Thompson

September 30, 2025 – CBI –  Woody Creek, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting a case review into the death of renowned journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson, at the suggestion of the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office following a request from his widow, Anita Thompson. The review is being conducted to provide an independent perspective on the 2005 investigation.
