January 3, 2025 – CBI – Monte Vista, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is assisting the Monte Vista Police Department (MVPD) with an investigation into a shooting that occurred this morning in Monte Vista.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, MVPD was notified of a shooting in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue. A female victim was shot once in the arm inside a residence. She was able to leave the home on foot and run to a neighbor’s house, who then called 911. The 35-year old victim was airlifted to a Colorado Springs hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The male suspect, identified as 77-year-old David Martin, initially barricaded himself inside the residence. He was subsequently taken into custody by law enforcement. Martin has been arrested and booked into the Rio Grande County Jail on one count of Assault in the First Degree. Additional charges are pending.
MVPD requested the assistance of the CBI, and a CBI Crime Scene team responded to process the scene. CBI Special Agents also responded to assist with the investigation, including interviewing the suspect and the victim.
