About the CBI Investigations Unit
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Investigations Unit provides around-the-clock support to law enforcement, prosecutors, and state leaders in the investigation and enforcement of Colorado’s criminal laws. The unit handles complex cases that often cross jurisdictional boundaries, including those covered by the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act.
Its work includes homicide, sexual assault, officer-involved shootings, organized crime, economic crimes, and cold case investigations, as well as fugitive and sex offender operations. The unit also manages statewide alerts such as AMBER, Blue, Senior, Medina, Missing Indigenous Person, and Developmental Disabilities Alerts to help locate missing or endangered individuals. Through these efforts, the Investigations Unit serves as a critical partner in solving major crimes and protecting communities across Colorado.

Investigations
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Investigations Section provides expert support to law enforcement across Colorado in solving complex and high-impact crimes. From Cold Cases and Crime Scene response to Economic Crimes, Fugitive Operations, and Major Crimes, CBI investigators work to uphold justice and protect communities. The section also manages Sex Offender investigations and leads Special Investigations targeting illicit marijuana operations statewide.
Missing Persons
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) works to protect and reunite missing persons with their loved ones through statewide programs and partnerships. From the Persons Who Wander initiative and family resources to the Missing Children Project, Poster Contest, and grant opportunities, CBI supports prevention, education, and recovery efforts that enhance safety and awareness across Colorado.

Designed to support investigators, patrol officers, and evidence technicians, these hands-on courses focus on best practices in crime scene management, evidence handling, and forensic documentation. Through continued education and collaboration, CBI’s training programs help agencies enhance investigative effectiveness and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
