February 4, 2025-CBI- Denver, CO- On Colorado Missing Person Day we remember those who have gone missing in Colorado. Specifically, those who have been missing from their families for
more than 1 year. They are never far from our hearts and minds. On this day we remember them and show support to their loved ones who struggle with this void every day.
 

102 Charges Filed Against Former DNA Scientist

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been notified that the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office has filed criminal charges against former Forensic Scientist Missy Woods.
CBI is working closely with the office of the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, as this case now moves forward into the realm of prosecution. 

Persons Who Wander Grant Awards $89,141 to 9 Law Enforcement Agencies

January 23, 2025 – CBI –  Lakewood, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI)  is pleased to announce that it has awarded a total of $89,141 to nine different law enforcement agencies across Colorado. These Persons Who Wander grants will be used to purchase drones and GPS tracking fobs or watches, which will help to improve search and rescue efforts for individuals who wander.

Attention 5th Graders: Help Bring Missing Children Home by Participating in the National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest

January 22, 2025 – CBI –  Lakewood, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is joining the U.S. Department of Justice to invite all 5th graders to participate in the National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest. This is a great opportunity for students to use their creativity to raise awareness about missing children and help bring them home.

CBI Hires Firm to Assess Forensics Operations

January 21, 2025 – CBI –  Arvada, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has hired a Wisconsin consulting firm to assess its forensic services and operations as part of its promise for transparency, accountability, and providing accurate scientific results.  This action follows the decisions of a single employee who allegedly manipulated data, compromising the integrity of CBI’s processes.

Pueblo Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges Following OIS

January 9, 2025 – CBI –  Salida, CO – A 54-year old Pueblo man shot after he fired at law enforcement during a stand-off Wednesday evening has been arrested on numerous charges, including the attempted murder of law enforcement officers.

Richard Chad Borrego faces the following counts:

 * 2 Counts of Attempted First-degree Murder of Peace Officer (Felonies)  

 * 2 Counts of Assault in First-degree (Felonies)  

 * 18 Counts of Menacing (Felonies) 

 * Prohibited use of a Weapon (Felony)

Arrest Warrants Issued for Park County Murder Suspects

January 3, 2025 – CBI –  Hartsel, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in partnership with the Park County Sheriff's Office and 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office has obtained arrest warrants for two murder suspects captured in Poplarville, Mississippi for the homicide of a Hartsel man.

The arrest warrants for 46-year-old Johnny Rankin Morris and 43-year-old Hailey Cole list the following counts:

City Market Homicide Appears to be Self-Defense

December 17, 2024 – CBI – Woodland Park, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has nearly completed its investigation into a fatal shooting at a City Market grocery store in Woodland Park on Friday November 29, 2024.  Based on the evidence gathered so far, this appears likely to be a case of self-defense but a final decision will be made by the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Fatal Shooting at Woodland Park Grocery Store Under Investigation

December 2, 2024 – CBI –  Woodland Park, CO –  The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal shooting at a City Market grocery store parking lot. Woodland Park Police responded to the 700 block of Gold Hill Place on Friday November 29, 2024 at approximately 5:30 PM after receiving a 911 call.

7th Anniversary of Maggie Long Homicide-$75,000 Reward

November 30, 2024 – CBI – Bailey, CO – As we approach the 7th anniversary of the Maggie Long homicide, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation wishes to remind the public there is a $75,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in her murder. The 17-year old was found murdered in her burned home near Bailey, CO which is in Park County on December 1, 2017. The home was burglarized and set on fire. Several items were stolen from the home at the time of her death to include guns, ammunition, jade figurines, and a safe.
