CBI holds school supply drive for students in need

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) partnered with a local non-profit agency to host a school-supply drive to benefit families in need.
Family Tree works with local residents affected by child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness to help provide safety and economic independence through emergency residential services, case management and advocacy, therapeutic services, outreach support, housing search and placement, education and employment support, among many other services.

CBI Celebrates National Forensic Science Week September 17-23

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is honoring the work of forensic scientists, technicians, and support staff assigned to the Forensic Services section across Colorado during National Forensic Science Week, Sept. 17-23, 2023.
CBI Forensic Services is responsible for the preservation and analysis of evidence found at a crime scene. Our dedicated forensic scientists will work with each and every agency in order to provide timely and accurate results.

Former Rocky Ford officer arrested

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is sending out this release on behalf of the Rocky Ford Police Department and the Otero County Sheriff's Office.

On August 22, 2023, law enforcement officials from the Rocky Ford Police Department, the Otero County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrested George Ibarra, 41, on charges related to incidents that allegedly occurred while he was employed as a Rocky Ford Police officer. The arrest charges are tampering with evidence, official misconduct, and theft.

CBI assists in multi-agency Operation Cross Country

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is sharing the below news release on behalf of our partners at FBI Denver. The CBI is proud to have been able to assist in Operation Cross Country, a comprehensive effort to address human trafficking across the state and nation.
Christian Mohr, CBI’s Agent In Charge of Human Trafficking/Sex Offender Unit, said CBI’s goal was to provide resources to help missing and endangered children in jurisdictions outside the Denver Metro area.

Arrest Made in Pagosa Springs Investigation

Note: This release is being sent on behalf of the Pagosa Springs Police Department.

A suspect has been arrested in the death of Michael Kroll.

Mr. Kroll was reported missing from the Pagosa Springs area on October 19, 2021.

His remains were later located in a remote area of La Plata County on September 25, 2022.

CBI Requested to Investigate an In-Custody Death

Just after 9:30 p.m. on August 16, 2023, staff at the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office (LPCSO) discovered an unresponsive male in his cell at the county jail. He was later pronounced dead.

The LPCSO has requested the assistance of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the in-custody death.

The La Plata County Coroner identified the deceased as Daniel John Foard (DOB: 07/10/1991).

The CBI does not have discretion to grant access to the AMBER alert site. CBI is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.

CBI purchases equipment to assist Colorado law enforcement agencies

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI’s) Biometric Identification and Records Unit (BIRU) recently purchased LiveScan machines and equipment for nine counties to support their operational needs.

The LiveScan devices directly capture demographic information as well as digital fingerprint images which are then sent to the CBI electronically for processing through the CBI’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Missing in Colorado event set for August 5, 2023

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will host its annual Missing in Colorado event on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Families and friends of those missing for more than one year in the state are invited to join us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lowry Conference Center, 1061 Akron Way, Bldg. 697, in Denver. The event is free and open to the public.
