Greeley 5th Grader Wins Missing Children's Day Poster Contest

May 21, 2025 – CBI –  Lakewood, CO – A fifth-grade student from Greeley won first-place  for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) National Missing Children's Day poster contest.

The annual poster contest, held by the CBI and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) since 2014, aims to recognize those who work to find missing children, increase safety awareness and start discussions amongst young students throughout the state.

Conejos County Sheriff's Office Continues Extensive Search for Missing Man with Cognitive Impairment

May 16 – CBI –  Conejos County, CO – The Conejos County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with numerous assisting agencies, is continuing an extensive search for 64-year-old Rodney Guilinger, who went missing on April 16, 2025. Mr. Guilinger suffers from cognitive impairment and requires daily medication, raising significant concerns for his well-being. His truck was located, stuck on Forest Service Road 380 in Conejos County on April 17, 2025.

Four Men Busted in Massive Fentanyl Distribution Network

May 7, 2025 – CBI –  Adams County, CO – A significant interstate drug investigation concluded on April 28, 2025, with the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of approximately 800,000 fentanyl pills, along with fentanyl powder, methamphetamine, heroin, and approximately $60,000 in cash. Special Agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the North Metro Drug Task Force (NMTF) executed two residential search warrants in the Denver Metro area as part of the operation.

Chris Schaefer Retires as CBI Director

May 2, 2025 – CBI –  Lakewood, CO – Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Chris Schaefer retires from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation today after a 30-year career in law enforcement.

Arrest Made in Stolen Blanca Police Rifle

March 21, 2025 – CBI –  Blanca, CO – After a thorough investigation by the Blanca Police Department with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for the arrest of Rodney Vigil, 45.  

The warrant was for Vigil's involvement of allegedly breaking into a town police car and stealing a patrol rifle on November 21, 2024.

CBI Releases Results of Independent Investigations, Director to Retire in May

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is releasing a series of independent investigations requested by Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) Executive Director Stan Hilkey following a series of allegations made against CBI Director Chris Schaefer. Employment Matters/Mark Flynn Investigations Group (EMFIG) conducted the investigations.

CBI Launches Public Dashboard to Track Progress on Sexual Assault Kit Backlog

February 24, 2025 – CBI –  Lakewood, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is announcing the launch of a new public dashboard on its website dedicated to tracking the agency's progress in addressing the backlog of sexual assault kit testing. The dashboard provides regular updates on the agency's efforts to reduce the current turnaround time of over 500 days for testing sexual assault kits.

CBI Special Agents & Conejos County Deputies Honored for Solving Fatal Child Abuse Case

February 21, 2025 – CBI –  Conejos County, CO – Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Agent Andrew (A.J.) Marceau and Special Agent Courtney Norman along with Conejos County Sheriff’s Investigator Laura  Amaya and Lieutenant Tony Galvez were honored by 12th Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly and Conejos County Sheriff Garth Crowther at the Conejos County Commissioner's meeting on February 20, 2025, for their exceptional work in solving a tragic child abuse case.

Colorado Missing Persons Day—February 4, 2025-Ceremony to be held at State Capitol

 

February 3, 2025 – CBI –  Denver, CO – Colorado Missing Persons Day is being honored with a series of events at the state Capitol building (200 E. Colfax Avenue) beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. In addition to a Resolution being read at the Capitol, a prayer vigil will honor more than 600 individuals currently missing for a year or more in the State of Colorado.
