CBI to Host Open House for Families of Missing Persons

For families not able to attend the Missing in Colorado event in August and would like to provide a family reference sample or pictures of their missing loved one, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is hosting an open house at its headquarters located in Lakewood, CO (690 Kipling St.) from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on November 1, 2023.

Silverthorne Police Officer Involved Shooting—Update

At the request of the Silverthorne Police Department, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is serving as the lead agency investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Silverthorne on Monday, October 16, 2023. 

Although early in the investigation, it’s believed a male suspect was spotted attempting to break into (trespass) a vehicle parked in the lot of the Summit Place Shopping Center (I-70 and Colorado Highway 6) just before 8:00 p.m. Monday.

Fremont County: Return to Nature Funeral Home Update

This news release is being sent out on behalf of Fremont County Sheriff Allen Cooper and Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller.

October 17, 2023 – Fremont County, CO – “While the investigation for this incident continues, we also remain focused on the impacted families,” said Fremont County Sheriff Allen Cooper. “We want to do all we can to provide the families the support they need as we shift to the next phase in this process.”

Remains positively identified as Suzanne Morphew

Agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) located human remains during the course of a search on September 22, 2023. Those remains were positively identified as Suzanne Morphew (49) of Chaffee County by the El Paso County Coroner on September 27, 2023. 

Morphew was reported missing from her home in Chaffee County on May 10, 2020.

Investigators were searching in the area of Moffat in Saguache (SUH-watch) County on an investigation not related to the Morphew disappearance when the remains were discovered.

CBI’s most wanted sex offender fugitive captured

David Mack, the most wanted fugitive on the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Top 100 Most Wanted Sex Offender Fugitive list, was taken into custody on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023.

The CBI recently tracked down Mack’s location, and with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, was able to arrest Mack.

Mack (DOB: 04/22/1966) had previously been convicted of attempted sexual assault on a child. He was wanted by the  El Paso County Sheriff's Office for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender.

September 25th Marks the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims

September 25 marks the 16th annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims in the United States.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) joins law enforcement and the families and friends of those who have lost their lives to homicide, to honor and remember their legacies on this important day.

Human remains found in Kiowa County

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is posting this release on behalf of the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office.
During the weeks of Sept. 10 and Sept. 17, 2023, the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office assisted a Kansas law enforcement agency with a missing persons investigation. On Sept. 20, 2023 human remains of two people were found in Kiowa County, south of Eads.
