Lamar Police, CBI Investigate Triple Shooting

Members of the Lamar Police Department responded to a triple shooting at an apartment complex in the 700 Block of Mullen St., just before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Lamar police officers were called to the Lamar Apartments on a shots-fired incident on Saturday afternoon. Upon arriving at the apartment, officers discovered three individuals who were shot, two females and one male. The male and one female were pronounced deceased at the scene. The second female was transported to the hospital for treatment. Her condition is unknown.

Arrests Made in Undercover Internet Sex Predator Operation

Members of the CBI’s Human Trafficking Unit joined the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction Police Department, Palisade Police Department, 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in an operation targeted suspects attempting to have sex with children, or engage in prostitution. The team made seven arrests during the operation that took place on the Western Slope in June. 
 

Teen Mother Charged with Stabbing, Killing Newborn Baby

Investigative Agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation were requested to provide investigative assistance related to a homicide investigation in Nunn, a town in Weld County.

An 18-year-old female from Texas has been charged in connection to the death of her newborn child in Weld County.

Leiyla Cepeda was arrested and charged Friday with two counts of first-degree murder in Weld district court.

CBI Honors Colorado’s Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest Winners

Three Colorado 5th-grade students were recognized for their award-winning posters as part of the National Missing Children’s Day poster contest.

CBI Director John Camper formally honored Kacey May Costa (first place) from the town of Weston, Aliana Rodriguez (second place) and Collins Heck (third place), both from the town of Holly, for their winning posters in the days leading up to National Missing Children’s Day on May 25, 2022. 

CBI Cold Case Team Earns Prestigious Award

Members of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received the extraordinary honor of being named one of the 2022 Tom Clements Better Government Award winners in March. 


The following members of the CBI were recognized for their outstanding work to help solve several Colorado cold cases in the last year, some dating back more than 40 years.

Two Injured in Overnight Shooting in Federal Heights

An overnight shooting in Federal Heights sent two people to the hospital on Sunday, March 20, 2022.

Federal Heights police officers were called to an apartment in the 1300 block of W. 84 Ave. on a call of shots fired at a party just after 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Police officers discovered two victims with injuries from gunshot wounds, a 17-year-old juvenile male and a 19-year-old female. Their injuries are not life threatening.

Update: Victim Identified in Saguache County Homicide

The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) continues to investigate an alleged homicide occurring in the town of Villa Grove in Saguache County at approximately 10:30 p.m. on February 23, 2022.

The SCSO received a 911 call reporting a stabbing in the 34100 block of County Rd. LL57 on Wednesday night. Deputies arrived at the home and located Brian Taylor (DOB: 10/14/1980), Moffat, inside the residence with possible stab wounds. Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Stabbing in Saguache County Leaves One Dead

The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is investigating an alleged homicide occurring in the town of Villa Grove in Saguache County at approximately 10:30 p.m. on February 23, 2022.

The SCSO received a 911 call reporting a stabbing in the 34100 block of County Rd. LL57 on Wednesday night. Deputies arrived at the home and located a male inside the residence with possible stab wounds. The unidentified male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

CBI Hosts Coloring Contest in Honor of Missing Children Poster Entry Deadline Extended to February 14, 2022

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has extended the deadline for entries for the Missing Children Poster contest to February 14. The contest is open to 5th grade students across Colorado as part of a national campaign sponsored by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).

Each year, the US DOJ takes time to commemorate the valiant and unselfish acts of the many organizations and individuals who bring our missing children home. Since 1983, May 25th has been designated as National Missing Children’s Day.

Colorado Missing Persons Day—February 4, 2022 Ceremony to be held at State Capitol

Colorado Missing Persons Day is being honored with a series of events at the state Capitol building (200 E. Colfax Avenue) beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022. In addition to a Resolution being read at the Capitol, a prayer vigil will honor more than 1,000 individuals currently missing for more than six months in the State of Colorado.
