Remains Identified in Wolf Creek Pass Crash

The Mineral County Coroner’s Office has identified the remains of the woman located at the scene of a crash on Wolf Creek Pass. 


Marlena Rena Mizell (DOB: 03/02/1971) was identified during an autopsy performed on March 1, 2021. According to the Coroner’s Office, the preliminary findings show Mizell died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries. Toxicology results are pending. 

Remains Found at Site of Vehicle Located off Wolf Creek Pass

On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, a team of local and state law enforcement, search and rescue officials and others worked to reach a vehicle located hundreds of feet from the roadway on Wolf Creek Pass.


Members of the Mineral and Archuleta counties Search & Rescue teams, Colorado State Patrol, Mineral County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Department of Transportation traveled to an area off Colorado State Highway 160 at MM 162 on the pass to reach the vehicle.

Law Enforcement Seeks Information in San Luis Homicide Investigation

The public is being asked to provide information related to a homicide investigation in the southern Colorado town of San Luis on February 3, 2021.

Just before midnight on Wednesday, February 3rd, Costilla County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to a home in the 900 block of Alfonso Street on a call of a shooting. Responding deputies discovered a 47-year-old man shot inside the home who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Christopher Patrick Lopez (DOB: 06/06/1973), who is known to live in the San Luis area.

Suspect in Chaffee County Day Camp Investigation Faces Additional Charges

Herbert Lucas Scott (DOB: 10/27/99), the suspect in the Pony Patch at Doolittle Ranch obscenity case in Chaffee County from August 2020, is facing additional charges in a new case.


A warrant for Scott was issued for Wrongs to At-Risk Adults – Felony 2, Sexual Assault—Felony 3 and Unlawful Sexual Contact—Felony 4. This case is unrelated to the allegations made at the Pony Patch at Doolittle Ranch. The latest victim is a 22-year-old at-risk adult and is known to the suspect outside of the camp.

CBI Launches New Website

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is pleased to announce the launch of its revamped website. The focus of the new design is on accessibility, usability and ease of browsing.

The website is divided into three primary sections: Investigations, Forensic Services and Support Services. However, several ‘quick link’ areas will help direct website visitors to some of the top-visited pages of the site including the Sex Offender Registry, Firearms and the Top 100 Most Wanted Sex Offender Fugitives. 

Colorado Missing Persons Day—February 4, 2021

Although Colorado’s Missing Persons Day will look a little different this year, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will honor more than *600 individuals currently missing for more than a year in the State of Colorado.  This year, the CBI invites families to visit the Bureau’s website to view a short video from both members of the Colorado Legislature and the CBI to remember those missing and their families.  

South Fork PD Seeks Information in Missing Person Case

Police are seeking information about a 49-year-old South Fork woman missing since early January.

Marlena Rena Mizell (DOB: 03/02/1971) was last seen leaving the Rainbow Motel (30359 HWY 160) in South Fork just before noon on January 2, 2021. She has had no contact with family or friends since.

Mizell has brown hair and blue eyes. She’s 5’1” tall and weighs 140 lbs., and was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt.

Two Arrested in Connection With the San Luis Valley Human Remains Cases

Two Alamosa men have been arrested in connection with the investigation involving human remains located in the San Luis Valley in late 2020, while Adre Baroz faces additional charges in the case. 


On January 18, 2021, Alamosa Police Department officers arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in the homicide of Myron Robert Martinez (DOB: 11/15/1982) of Del Norte, whose remains were located in Conejos County in November 2020.
