Name of Deceased Released in Cañon City OIS

The name of the deceased in the Cañon City Police Department officer-involved shooting has been named. 

Dalton Lee Buckholz (DOB: 08/10/1992), Cañon City, was shot during an incident involving two members of the Cañon City Police Department near the Quality Inn on Colorado State Highway 50 near Dozier Avenue, just after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021.  A 20-year-old male passenger inside the vehicle was also shot, but is expected to survive his injuries.

Arrest Made in Suzanne Morphew Case in Chaffee County

Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office--The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that Barry Morphew (DOB: 10/17/1967), Poncha Springs, was arrested on Murder in the First Degree (F1), Tampering with Physical Evidence (F6) and Attempt to Influence a Public Servant (F4) in connection with the murder of Suzanne Morphew. 
 

Officer-Involved Shooting in Cañon City Being Investigated

05/02/2021—Two members of the Cañon City Police Department were involved in an officer-involved shooting, injuring two people, one fatally, occurring on Colorado State Highway 50 near Dozier Avenue, just after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

Additional Charges in San Luis Valley Remains/Missing Persons Cases - Update

Adre Baroz is facing additional charges in connection with the investigation involving human remains located in the San Luis Valley and missing persons cases in late 2020.

On April 26, 2021, the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that Adre Baroz (DOB: 10/28/1994), Sanford, faces additional charges of Murder in the First Degree, Tampering with Deceased Human Remains and Assault in the First Degree related to the murder of Korina Arroyo (DOB: 08/30/1989), Monte Vista.

Remains Identified in Wolf Creek Pass Crash

The Mineral County Coroner’s Office has identified the remains of the woman located at the scene of a crash on Wolf Creek Pass. 


Marlena Rena Mizell (DOB: 03/02/1971) was identified during an autopsy performed on March 1, 2021. According to the Coroner’s Office, the preliminary findings show Mizell died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries. Toxicology results are pending. 

Remains Found at Site of Vehicle Located off Wolf Creek Pass

On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, a team of local and state law enforcement, search and rescue officials and others worked to reach a vehicle located hundreds of feet from the roadway on Wolf Creek Pass.


Members of the Mineral and Archuleta counties Search & Rescue teams, Colorado State Patrol, Mineral County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Department of Transportation traveled to an area off Colorado State Highway 160 at MM 162 on the pass to reach the vehicle.
