The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is designated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, as the CJIS Systems Agency for the state of Colorado.
As such, it is the responsibility of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Unit to manage the policies and business practices followed by Colorado criminal justice agencies regarding numerous criminal justice computer systems, including the Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer databases and the International Public Safety and Justice Network (Nlets).
As part of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program, CJIS Unit publishes crime statistics to the the Colorado Crime Stats website, and this data are available to law enforcement as well as the public. This data are used for policy determinations, research and to provide important criminal and crime-related information to the public.
CJIS Unit strives to provide the best possible customer service to all criminal justice agencies and the public as a whole. When law enforcement personnel have questions or issues related to criminal justice systems, the CJIS Unit staff proudly provide the first line of support to ensure Colorado law enforcement are able to perform their duties with secure access to accurate, complete, and timely information. Additionally, CJIS Unit readily answers questions for the public regarding the CCIC, CJIS Security, and UCR programs.
