CBI purchases equipment to assist Colorado law enforcement agencies

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI’s) Biometric Identification and Records Unit (BIRU) recently purchased LiveScan machines and equipment for nine counties to support their operational needs.

The LiveScan devices directly capture demographic information as well as digital fingerprint images which are then sent to the CBI electronically for processing through the CBI’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Missing in Colorado event set for August 5, 2023

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will host its annual Missing in Colorado event on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Families and friends of those missing for more than one year in the state are invited to join us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lowry Conference Center, 1061 Akron Way, Bldg. 697, in Denver. The event is free and open to the public.

CBI deputy director Chris Andrist retires

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation held a farewell ceremony for Deputy Director Chris Andrist on June 30, which was his last day with the Bureau.

Andrist concluded an extraordinary law enforcement career spanning more than 25 years. He had served as the CBI deputy director for support services for the past eight years.

As a CBI deputy director, he was responsible for oversight of the Support Services Section, involving background checks, statewide crime stats and all Criminal Justice Information Systems maintained in the section.

New threats associated with Fentanyl

CBI participated in a panel discussion on the growing dangers of fentanyl on June 22, 2023. The panel also included FBI Denver, the DEA, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Colorado, the Colorado State Patrol and the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.

CBI Graduated Three from Latent Print Academy

Three members of The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Forensic Services Section graduated from the 7th session of the International Latent Print Examiner Training Academy in May 2023.

A graduation ceremony was held Friday, May 26, 2023.

The 20-week program, which began Jan. 7, 2023 in Meridian, Mississippi, trains employees on latent print processing to develop fingerprints, latent print comparison techniques, expert testimony, and combating bias.

Longtime fugitive arrested in Denver

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is proud to announce the arrest of a longtime wanted fugitive on Wednesday morning, May 24, 2023.

In April, CBI received a tip about Alejandro Gamboa-Miranda (DOB: 09/30/1973) AKA Javier Gomez.

He had two active warrants (one dating back to 2005): one for ID theft and one for drug charges.
