August, 13, 2025 -CBI- Lakewood, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has once again been awarded the prestigious Law Enforcement Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This marks the fourth time the CBI has received this international gold standard for public safety agencies, with the new accreditation effective July 26, 2025, for a period of four years.

CALEA Accreditation is a rigorous and continuous process that holds agencies to internationally accepted public safety standards. To achieve this honor, the CBI underwent a thorough self-assessment of its policies, practices, and procedures. This was followed by an independent assessment by experienced public safety professionals.

The process also included an examination of the CBI’s effectiveness and service delivery through structured interviews with personnel and other community members, as well as a public feedback component to ensure community trust and engagement.

The final decision to grant accreditation was made by a governing body of 21 Commissioners after a public hearing and review of all documentation.

CALEA Accreditation is a hallmark of professional excellence, demonstrating an agency’s commitment to being well-managed, transparent, and community-focused. The CBI must maintain its compliance with CALEA standards throughout the four-year period to retain its accredited status.
