Missing Persons Open House-Family DNA Sample

If you were unable to attend our missing in Colorado event in August and are interested in providing a
family reference sample please consider attending our open house.  A family reference is simply a cheek
swab obtained using a large Q-tip.  

Notification to Stakeholders CBI Proposed Rule Changes

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is amending these rules to update the timeframe for appealing a denial decision, to update the hours of operation for conducting background checks, and to update the CBI public point of contact for public inspection of documents related to these regulations. The public hearing on these proposed rule changes is April 15, 2024 at 11:00am.

CBI Names Strategic Communications Director

Rob Low has been named the Strategic Communications Director for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He began his tenure on March 18, 2024.
“Rob brings a new perspective to this position as a long-time Investigative Reporter to this key function within the CBI,” said CBI Director Chris Schaefer. “As someone with a long track record of covering criminal justice issues from multiple perspectives, we thought he would be ideal in relaying information regarding CBI’s roles and responsibilities in Public Safety, as well as the men and women who carry out these important duties.

CBI Requested to Investigate Use of Force Incident in Kit Carson County

The CBI has been requested to investigate a use of force incident involving two members of the Kit Carson County Sheriff’s Office (KCCSO) on March 15, 2024.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the KCCSO members responded to a residence in Flagler for an active arrest warrant of a suspect in connection to an alleged domestic violence and felony menacing incident from Thursday evening (March 14, 2024). The shooting occurred following a confrontation during the search of the residence and remains under investigation.
