September 4, 2025 – CBI – Cañon City, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is releasing updated information regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Friday, August 29, 2025, in the 1400 block of Chestnut Street in Cañon City.
The suspect involved in the incident has been identified as Ethan Pollington, 27, of Cañon City.
The incident began just after 6:00 p.m. last Friday when a Fremont County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a welfare check. The deputy was following up on a series of repeated 911 hang-up calls made from the residence. Preliminary information indicates that the deputy made contact with a relative of Pollington, who was a resident at the home. The relative informed the deputy that Pollington was drunk and had a gun.
As the deputy was speaking with the relative, Pollington opened the door and pointed a .22 caliber handgun at the deputy. Pollington then walked outside, at which point the deputy fired his weapon, striking Pollington twice in the arm and leg. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Pollington’s handgun was later determined to be unloaded.
The deputy was not struck by gunfire but was transported to a local hospital following a medical event and has since been released.
The deputy involved was wearing a body-worn camera that was activated at the time of the incident, and the footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Pollington has been released from the hospital and faces the following charges:
- First-Degree Assault (Felony)
- Felony Menacing of a Peace Officer (Felony)
- Reckless Endangerment at-Risk Adult (Misdemeanor)
- Reckless Endangerment (Misdemeanor)
- Prohibited Use of a Weapon (Misdemeanor)
Pollington will be advised of his charges today at 1:30 pm in Division Z of the Fremont County Courthouse.
