September 24, 2025 – CBI – Leadville, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, (CBI) with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the 5th Judicial District Attorney's Office, is investigating a fatal road rage shooting.
The suspect, identified as Robert Price Chase, 31, of Leadville, CO, has been arrested on a charge of second-degree murder. He's currently in custody at the Lake County Detention facility.
On September 23, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m., Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 13200 block of US Highway 24 following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male who had been fatally shot.
The victim has been identified as 40-year old Landon Lavelle Mentink of Leadville. Investigators believe the two men were involved in an apparent road rage incident that escalated to violence, when Chase allegedly shot the victim during the altercation.
Chase made his first court appearance this afternoon where his bond was set at $100,000 dollars. His next court appearance is set for October 16, 2025 at 2 p.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing, led by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the Lake County Sheriff's Office and investigators from the 5th Judicial District Attorney's Office. No further information will be released at this time.
