01/07/2019—The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office (LACSO), with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is investigating human remains located near the town of Aguilar on January 6, 2019.
LACSO deputies responded to the call of remains discovered by residents walking in the area near a closed truck stop at exit 34 on Interstate 25 just after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Members of the CBI Crime Scene Response team processed the area where the human remains were located. The coroner will work to identify the remains and determine the cause of death. Further details about the remains will not be released until the autopsy is completed on Tuesday afternoon.
The town of Aguilar is located approximately 20 miles north of Trinidad.
