The Colorado Bureau of Investigation held a farewell ceremony for Deputy Director Chris Andrist on June 30, which was his last day with the Bureau.

Andrist concluded an extraordinary law enforcement career spanning more than 25 years. He had served as the CBI deputy director for support services for the past eight years.

As a CBI deputy director, he was responsible for oversight of the Support Services Section, involving background checks, statewide crime stats and all Criminal Justice Information Systems maintained in the section.

“When one adventure ends, another adventure begins. … Thank you again. It’s just been a pleasure. I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” said Andrist at the retirement celebration.

Prior to joining CBI, Andrist worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office starting in 1991. His tenure began in the Criminalistics Unit working in all areas of Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation. In 1999, Andrist was promoted to the Criminalistics Manager’s Position overseeing the Crime Lab, Evidence/Property Unit, and the Identification Unit.

In 2001, Andrist moved to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation where he was assigned to the Investigations Section as a field agent in the Major Crimes Unit specializing in computer crime investigation and examination. In 2010, Andrist was promoted to the rank of Agent In Charge and was assigned to the Off Site Investigations Unit and later to the Organized Crime/Gaming Unit. He was promoted to deputy director in 2015.

At the farewell ceremony, CBI Director Chris Schaefer praised Andrist for his absolute dedication and compassion in all aspects of law enforcement.

“It wasn’t just the cops out on the streets, it wasn’t just forensics. It was everything. He put his heart and soul into it,” said Schaefer.
