Endangered Missing/Media Alert
Endangered Missing Alert
The Endangered Missing Alert (also known as a Media Alert) is a notification to the media and public containing information about a missing person and the circumstances of their disappearance when the missing person does not meet the criteria established in statute or applicable rules for the AMBER Alert, Missing Senior Citizen Alert, Developmental Disabilities Alert, or Missing Indigenous Person Alert, but where endangering and/or at-risk circumstances of the case and missing person are evident.
A local law enforcement agency will notify the Colorado Bureau of Investigation about an endangered and missing person. We will then obtain information about the missing person and circumstances of their disappearance to begin the alert activation procedure. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation will forward information on to participating radio stations, television stations, and other media outlets in Colorado. If there is a license plate number associated with a vehicle known to the missing person, the Department of Transportation Operation Center may post the plate number on the Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Colorado highways.
