Missing Indigenous Person Alert

Missing Indigenous Person Alert:

On June 8, 2022, Governor Jared Polis signed SB 22-150: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives. This bill establishes the Office of the Liaison for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (OMMIR) and the Missing Indigenous Person Alert Program.

CRITERIA:

  1. The person must have gone missing while in Colorado.
  2. The person must be of Indigenous descent.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation performs outreach to local law enforcement on all known missing indigenous persons. If a Missing Indigenous Person Alert is requested by a local law enforcement agency following outreach, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation will then obtain information about the missing person and further
circumstances of their disappearance to begin the alert activation procedure. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation will forward information on to participating radio stations, television stations, and other media outlets in Colorado. If there is a license plate number associated with a vehicle known to the missing person, the Department of Transportation Operation Center may post the plate number on the Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Colorado highways.
