Ignacio Man Arrested in Connection with Wife’s Murder

An Ignacio man is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder as a result of an alleged homicide occurring at an Ignacio home on December 31, 2020.

It’s believed Damon Lamont Matthews (DOB: 06/04/1976) murdered his wife, Rachel Phillips Mathews (per her Colorado Driver’s License record), (DOB: 08/20/1973), at their home in the 100 block of Romero Avenue on New Year’s Eve.  Matthews then fled the scene and drove to the Denver metro area.

Arrest Made in Saguache County Homicide

An arrest has been made in the Saguache homicide occurring in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Deputies with the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), with assistance from Colorado State Patrol troopers, arrested Donald Garcia (DOB: 07/31/1975) without incident in an abandoned camper in the town of Saguache, just after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday December 8, 2020.

Saguache County SO Investigates Homicide, Suspect Sought

The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is investigating a murder in the town of Saguache occurring in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Deputies with the SCSO were called to a home in the 800 block of Gunnison Avenue just before 4:30 a.m. on a report of an injured Salida man in his 50’s who sustained what ultimately would become fatal injuries.

​One Set of Human Remains Located in the San Luis Valley Identified

One set of human remains located on a Conejos County property in November has been identified.

A *Forensic Odonotologist assisting task force investigators identified one set of the human remains recovered as Myron Robert Martinez (DOB: 11/15/1982) of Del Norte. Martinez was reported missing to the Rio Grande Sheriff’s Office on November 6, 2020. A family member reported they had not been in contact with Mr. Martinez since late October.

Investigators contacted the family of Mr. Martinez to make the official notification of his death.
