September 25th marks the 13th annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims in the United States.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) joins law enforcement and the families and friends of those who have lost their lives to homicide, to honor and remember their legacies on this important day.

The CBI asks the community and families to visit the CBI Cold Case Database where the profiles of more than 1,700 individuals (murdered and missing) are featured on the site. Take a moment to review the pages, and if you have a loved one listed among those pages and do not see a photograph please consider sending one to the CBI so it can be added.

In an effort to highlight just a few of the many victims listed on the CBI Cold Case Database, the CBI has compiled profiles of nearly two dozen victims as we honor all victims on this National Day of Remembrance.

In addition to assigning an analyst to oversee the Cold Case program, the CBI also oversees the Cold Case Review Team where public safety experts review cold cases presented by local law enforcement to offer insight on these cases. The CBI is also part of the Cold Case Task Force where organizations such as Families of Homicide Victims and Missing Persons (FOHVAMP) and others meet to identify best practices to help solve these cases and celebrate successes.

"The National Day of Remembrance is an important day, and we must be committed to remembering and honoring the victims of homicide every day of the year, especially their families as they struggle with the enormity and finality of losing a loved one," said CBI Director John Camper.

In 2007, Congress designated September 25th as the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. Communities across the country will hold vigils and other events to honor their memories.
