01/07/2019—The Rocky Ford Police Department (RFPD) is investigating a shooting that sent a Rocky Ford man to the hospital on January 6, 2019.

Based on the initial investigation, it’s believed a 23-year-old male was walking in the area of the 700 block of Pine Street when he was confronted by a 16-year-old juvenile and shot multiple times, just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The victim was flown to an area hospital via helicopter for medical treatment. It’s believed he is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

The teen allegedly responsible for the shooting was taken into custody by officers with the RFPD and transported to the Pueblo Youth Services Center where he is being held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and reckless endangerment.

Members of the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are working with the RFPD on the investigation.

Note: Because this investigation is in its preliminary stages, and the fact the suspect is a juvenile, the names of those involved in the incident will not be released at this time.
