08/02/2019—The Longmont Department of Public Safety and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plan to host the Missing in Colorado event at the Lowry Conference Center (1061 Akron Way, Bldg. 697, Denver, CO), from 10:00a.m. until 3:00p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019.
“Today there are 1,191 active missing persons in Colorado. Although this is an alarming number, we know many of these missing people will be reunited with their families within a few days, weeks and months of the dates they went missing,” said CBI Deputy Director Chris Schaefer. “Tragically, others will remain missing for years, even decades later. The CBI and our law enforcement partners want to stand with the families of the missing and help them obtain the answers they seek.”
Family and friends of missing persons in Colorado are invited to attend the Missing in Colorado event, which will offer a number of resources for impacted families. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with investigators, share information such as photos, dental records, DNA, etc., and enter information about their loved one into a national missing person database.
To date 309 Colorado missing persons and 78 unidentified remains cases have been added to the National Missing Unidentified Person System (NamUs). NamUs was created in 2009 and its mission is to bring people, information, forensic science and technology together. NamUs helps resolve missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases throughout the United States.
