05/13/2020--Law enforcement continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting occurring in Clear Creek County on May 9, 2020.
The deceased suspect has been identified as Darrin Jon Patterson (DOB: 07/25/1962) of Clear Creek County.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to investigate the incident and is currently coordinating with the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Summary of the incident
The incident began when officers with the Idaho Springs Police Department (ISPD) attempted to stop Patterson’s Saturn on a traffic stop just before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. When Patterson fled the scene, a pursuit of his vehicle ensued, but was later terminated.
Approximately 10 minutes following the termination of the ISPD pursuit, deputies with the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office spotted Patterson’s vehicle on Highway 103 and initiated a second pursuit. During the course of the pursuit, it’s believed Patterson set the inside of the car on fire. After stopping the vehicle in the 9500 block of Peaceful Valley Lane, Patterson brandished a firearm and was shot by deputies.
Patterson was pronounced deceased at the scene.
