Three members of The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Forensic Services Section graduated from the 7th session of the International Latent Print Examiner Training Academy in May 2023.

A graduation ceremony was held Friday, May 26, 2023.

The 20-week program, which began Jan. 7, 2023 in Meridian, Mississippi, trains employees on latent print processing to develop fingerprints, latent print comparison techniques, expert testimony, and combating bias.

A latent print is an impression of the skin of the hands that has been transferred to another surface, and is one of the disciplines featured in the CBI forensic laboratories.

The academy is a very intense, focused training that takes the usual 18-24 month Latent Print Examiner Training and reduces it to about eight months.

The CBI trainees are Camille Smith, Alicia Pannell and Kodi Krebill. Smith will report to the Grand Junction lab, Pannell to the Pueblo lab and Krebill to the Arvada lab. All three were sworn in on June 5, 2023.

“We are incredibly proud of the work they put into this program, and excited to have them join the team back in Colorado,” said Shanley Garrett, CBI forensics services quality manager.
